Tank Size:
A minimum of 55 gallons is recommended, with larger tanks preferred for multiple fish.
Water Parameters:
Temperature: 76-82°F (24-28°C).
pH: 7.8-8.6, maintaining an alkaline environment.
Hardness: 10-20 dGH.
Substrate and Aquascape:
Use a fine sand or smooth gravel substrate with plenty of rockwork to create caves and hiding places, mimicking their natural habitat.
Filtration:
Good filtration is crucial due to their messy eating habits.
Diet:
A varied diet of high-quality cichlid pellets, supplemented with live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, bloodworms, and spirulina, is ideal.
Tank Mates:
Best kept with other peacocks and Haplochromis species of similar size and temperament. Avoid overly aggressive Mbuna cichlids.
Breeding:
Ngara Flametail Peacocks are maternal mouthbrooders, meaning the females incubate the eggs in their mouths. Provide caves or flat rocks to encourage spawning.
