Placidochromis Phenochilous Mdoka
- Guaranteed Male 4"+ -
Appearance:
Males are particularly striking, developing a vibrant blue coloration as they mature, with the signature white lips. Females also have blue coloration and white lips, though often less intense.
Temperament:
Generally peaceful, but can be territorial during breeding.
Tank Size:
Adult fish need a tank over 125 gallons, though smaller tanks can be used while they are growing.
Water Parameters:
They prefer alkaline water with a pH above 7, ideally 7.8-8.6, and a temperature between 76-82°F (24-28°C).
Diet:
A high-protein diet is recommended, including slow-sinking pellets, flakes, and live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, supplemented with some vegetable matter.
Tank Setup:
They are open-water swimmers, so a tank with ample open space for swimming and some rocky areas for hiding is ideal.
Compatibility:
They do well with other peaceful Haplochromis cichlids and Peacocks, but should not be kept with overly aggressive species or smaller fish that could be seen as prey.
Breeding:
They are maternal mouthbrooders, meaning the female will incubate the eggs in her mouth.
