Tank Size and Setup:

A 75-gallon or larger aquarium is recommended for a small group of Maulana Bicolor Peacocks, with 100 gallons or more being ideal for a community. The tank should have a sandy substrate to allow them to sift for food, as they are benthic feeders. Provide plenty of rockwork to create caves and hiding places, but also ensure there is ample open swimming space.

Water Parameters:

These cichlids need hard, alkaline water with a pH between 7.8 and 8.6. Maintain a temperature between 76-82°F (24-28°C). Regular water changes (20-30% weekly) are crucial for maintaining water quality and keeping nitrate levels low.

Diet:

Maulana Bicolor Peacocks are omnivores and require a varied diet. Offer a high-quality cichlid pellet or flake food as a staple, supplemented with live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia. Include vegetable matter in their diet as well.

Tank Mates:

These cichlids are generally peaceful, but males can be territorial, especially during breeding. They do well with other African cichlids of similar size and temperament, such as other Peacock cichlids or Haps. Avoid keeping them with overly aggressive or timid fish.

Breeding:

Maulana Bicolor Peacocks are mouthbrooders, with the female holding the eggs in her mouth after spawning. To encourage breeding, maintain a group of several females with one or two males.
