The Mbenji Peacock (Aulonocara koningsi), often sold as the Blue Regal Peacock, is a vibrant Lake Malawi cichlid endemic to Mbenji Island. Males exhibit bright metallic blue bodies with yellow highlights, typically growing to 6–7 inches. They prefer sandy/rocky habitats, require a 55+ gallon tank, and are mildly aggressive omnivores.

Origin: Endemic to Mbenji Island, Lake Malawi, usually found in the intermediate zone (rocky/sandy transition).
Size: They typically grow to a maximum of 6–7 inches, with "Jumbo" specimens reaching over 5.5 inches.
Appearance: Males are highly colored with intense, metallic blue coloration and a yellow/orange blaze or streak. Females are generally smaller and more subdued (drab/brownish).
Temperament: Mildly aggressive compared to Mbuna, making them suitable for mixed Lake Malawi tanks.
Diet: Omnivore; should be fed a high-quality diet that includes small meaty foods, flakes, and pellets.
Tank Setup & Requirements
Tank Size: A minimum of 55 gallons is recommended for a single male or a small group, with larger tanks needed for breeding colonies.
Water Parameters: They require hard, alkaline water. Temperature: 74–84°F pH: 7.4–8.4.
Environment: Prefer a sandy substrate with several rocky caves and open areas for swimming.
