Nimbochromis Fuscotaeniatus
Key Characteristics
Common Names: Spothead Hap, Fusco Cichlid, Fuscotaeniatus Eyebiter.
Habitat: Native to Lake Malawi and Lake Malombe, Africa.
Diet: Carnivorous ambush predator, feeding on smaller fish.
Hunting Style: Lies motionless, sometimes sideways, to mimic a dead fish and ambush prey (also called "sleeper cichlids").
Size: Males up to 25 cm (9.8 in), females slightly smaller.
Appearance: Juveniles and females are mottled tan/brown; adult males are iridescent blue with red fins.
Aquarium Care
Tank Size: Minimum 500 liters (large tank).
Water Parameters: Temperature 24–28°C, pH 7.8–8.6, alkaline water.
Setup: Sandy substrate, large rock structures, caves, and open swimming areas.
Temperament: Mildly to very aggressive; territorial.
Diet: High-quality granules or pellets; avoid flakes.
