Key Care Requirements:

Tank Setup: A minimum of 75 gallons is recommended, though 100 gallons is preferred for adults. They need plenty of open swimming space in the middle and lower levels, along with rock formations, wood, and caves to hide and establish territories.

Water Parameters: They thrive in hard, alkaline water, with a pH of 7.8–8.6, temperature of 73–82°F, and good water movement.

Diet: As omnivores, they should be fed a varied diet including quality cichlid pellets or flakes, spirulina, and protein-rich foods like frozen brine shrimp or krill.

Temperament and Tank Mates: They are moderately aggressive. Suitable tank mates include other Malawi Haps (e.g., Peacocks) of similar size. It is generally advised to avoid mixing them with highly aggressive Mbuna cichlids.
