Aulonocara turkis cichlids (Turkis Peacock) require a 75+ gallon aquarium with a sandy substrate, rockwork for hiding, and high-quality, hard water (pH 7.5–8.5, 76–82°F). As active, semi-aggressive carnivores (4–6 inches), they thrive on high-protein diets and should be kept with other Malawi peacocks/Haps, often in all-male groups.

Key Care Requirements:
Tank Size: Minimum 75 gallons is recommended for a group to accommodate their active swimming behavior and manage aggression.
Water Parameters: 76–82°F (24–28°C), pH 7.5–8.5, and hard water (dH 10-20).
Aquascape: Sandy substrate (which they sift) with plenty of rocks and caves, but also open swimming space.
Diet: Carnivorous; provide high-quality pellets, frozen brine shrimp, or krill.
Temperament/Tank Mates: Semi-aggressive. Best kept with other Aulonocara species or non-Mbuna Lake Malawi Haps.
Maintenance: Weekly 20–30% water changes are crucial to keep nitrates low.
Behavior & Breeding:
Males exhibit intense colors, while females are drab.
They are mouthbrooders; females carry eggs in their mouths for several weeks.
All-male tanks are popular to display maximum color without breeding aggression
